One of the main problems of the working world is drop-in visitors, We can spend half or more of our workday dealing with unexpected visitors. Others of us make our living by playing the role of a visitor. If you are a sales representative, such is the nature of your job.
Like meetings, drop-in visitors give us all sorts of excuses to be ineffective. We can socialise, provide an audience, ask others for their ideas (when our mind is usually made up anyway) and practise the art of procrastination ( Wow what a pretence) with all of its wonderful payoffs.
With that basic policy in mind, here are some ways to manage drop-in visits:
- Pin down who your main drop-ins are. Keep a visitor log for a week or two.
- Close your door. This might be a problem if you are in a supervisory or managerial position. Makes times for access if possible.
- Remove any extra chairs and other social amenities from your office
- If someone walks into your office unexpectedly, stand up and remain standing.
- If someone knocks on your door, confer with them outside your office. The idea is to keep visitors from firmly planting themselves in your office or your home.
- Be candid with visitors- If someone drops in and asks if you're busy, answer 'Yes'. If you can see them for only five minutes, tell them so. If they need more time, make an appointment.

Diabetes - Coming of Age
People with diabetes do not convert blood sugar (glucose) into energy effectively, either because they do not produce enough insulin (type 1 diabetes) or because their insulin no longer works properly (type 2 diabetes).
People with undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes are at risk of heart disease and may develop other major health problems such as hypertension, stroke, kidney failure and limb amputation.
Diabetes can be controlled with healthy eating, regular exercise and, in some cases, tablets or insulin injections. However, diabetes cannot be cured at this stage.
Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle are major risk factors for risk of type 2 diabetes, and because these factors are increasing in Australia, so too is the incidence of type 2 diabetes.
About 930,000 people in Australia have type 2 diabetes, but only half of these people know that they have the disease. This means there are many Australians have undiagnosed diabetes!

The Hole-in-One that Nobody Saw
From 'The Positive Power of Praising People' by Jerry D. Twentier.
'Whoooosh!
The sound was solid and perfect. The instant his club struck the ball. He knew it was a good one. Higher, faster, farther! That streak of white arched and burst upward into the gray sky. Grant watched with satisfaction as the ball flew down the heart of the fairway..... This was one magnificent stroke!
Straining his eyes, he gasped in amazement as the tiny white speck rolled closer ... closer.... closer and....vanished into the cup! He was stunned.
"Yesssss!" ........ "I don't believe it!" he kept shouting to no one in particular: The adrenaline rush made him delirious with excitement. "Wait till I tell the guys about this one!"
"Elated as I was," Grant explained later, "I felt an immediate sense of frustration. What if nobody believed me? How could I prove I really aced it? ........
Like Grant and his heart-breaking hole-in-one experience, our achievements are worth less - and enjoyed much less - if they go unrecognized by others.
Accepting and enjoying acknowledgement is a basic human need.'

Early Arrivals
What can doctors - and parents - do about the alarming rise in the number of premature births? How can a woman reduce her risk for preterm delivery?
This may be a little help to those worrying about early arrivals:
- a woman can reduce her risk for preterm delivery by visiting her health care provider before pregnancy and, once pregnant, seeking early and regular prenatal care. A preconception visit is especially crucial for women with chronic disorders, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, which sometimes can contribute to preterm birth.
- when a woman receives adequate preconception and prenatal care, problems often can be identified early and treated, helping to reduce the risk for preterm birth.
- studies suggest that consuming the recommended amount of folic acid throughout pregnancy may reduce the risk for preterm birth.
- avoid alcohol, smoking and illicit drugs beginning before pregnancy and throughout pregnancy.
- try to reach a healthy weight before pregnancy because women who are overweight or underweight are at increased risk for premature delivery.
- gain the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy. Recommended weight gain during pregnancy is generally 25 to 35 pounds for women who begin pregnancy at a normal weight and less for women who start out overweight or obese.
- One new treatment may help prevent a subsequent preterm delivery in women who have already had a premature baby. Studies show that treatment with the hormone progesterone (17P) reduces the risk for preterm delivery by about one-third in these women. Progesterone is given as weekly injections beginning at 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Mannatech and the Chairman, Sam Caster, are the leaders in the glyconutrients industry and want to share this optimal health opportunity with you. Mannatech's proprietary products redefine wellness and are designed to give you assurance of nutritional health.
