Good Carb Diet

We've all experienced the pleasure of losing weight and feeling great - but it never lasts long, diets are hard to stick to and before you know it, you're back to square one. So what do we do next?
Dr. Michael Spira, a leading UK slimming expert for the last 30 years has just published for the first time a 'diet' that he has been using successfully on his private patients for years..... The fat or calories in the food you eat are the real culprits that make you put on weight and keep it on. By avoiding these"bad carbs", you can eat whatever you want and provided you eat sensibly, lose kilo after kilo ....The "bad carbs" stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin than is necessary. Too much insulin can indirectly generate fat deposits on the hips, stomach, bottom and thighs - all those flab attracting areas that make you look overweight....
The Chelsea Diet shows us the "good carbs" you should eat every day - carbohydrates that help keep your metabolism in balance and cause you to lose excess weight rather than store it as fat.

Glyconutrients are the bases for Mannatech Inc and founder Sam Caster. Their products also include a weight loss program. Glyconutrients, this proprietary technology communicates, maintains and balances the immune system. A Young Rose

'Wine Lesson' by Sally Gudgeon, from Lifestyle - Sun-Herald magazine Nov 2007.
It's good to have a great wine with dinner occasionally.
'Pink wines don't cellar so enjoy them while they're fresh and young, within a year of vintage. If you're a red wine drinker not keen on chilled whites, try a chilled rose during the warmer months. They are lighter versions of the red grape from which they are made. Roses made from a mixture of red and white grapes do exist but the best roses are made from red grapes, by the skin contact method. This means the grapes are crushed and the skins are kept in contact with the juice briefly to extract colour. The deeper the colour of the rose, the longer the skin contact and the more tannins. Most roses are unsoaked. They go with a wide range of foods from highly spiced dishes to pink roast lamb.'

Whilst drinking alcohol is acceptable by most people these days, Mannatech Inc and Sam Caster the founder, have discovered glyconutrients that may protect the cells damaged by alcohol. Glyconutrients are necessary for cell-to-cell communication and early research suggests that by adding glyconutrients to the human diet there is an increase in production in one's bone marrow stem cell production.

Why We Need Glyconutritionals

Taken from 'Breakthroughs in Health' Vol. 1 Issue 2 2006.
'Despite our best intentions, most of us are not eating the food elements our bodies need every day. Because of our stressful lives, and our over-reliance on fast foods and quick snacks, our bodies lack the glyconutrients we need. "In our typical diets, most people only obtain two of the eight essential sugars; glucose and some galactose," says Luis Romero, M.D., who specializes in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine and clinical pharmacology. "That is why we are seeing growing epidemics of autoimmune diseases in this country." Romero studied at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre and Harvard University and conducted research at Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York. For the past five years he has devoted the bulk of his time to researching glycobiology.'

Mannatech Inc with founder Sam Caster, is the world leader in glyconutrients. With their cutting-edge scientists they have produced supplements and skin care give optimal health and wellness. Early research on glyconutrients suggests that by adding glyconutrients to the human diet there is an increase in production in one's bone marrow stem cell production.

Dealing With the Unexpected

One of the main problems of the working world is drop-in visitors, We can spend half or more of our workday dealing with unexpected visitors. Others of us make our living by playing the role of a visitor. If you are a sales representative, such is the nature of your job.
Like meetings, drop-in visitors give us all sorts of excuses to be ineffective. We can socialise, provide an audience, ask others for their ideas (when our mind is usually made up anyway) and practise the art of procrastination ( Wow what a pretence) with all of its wonderful payoffs.
With that basic policy in mind, here are some ways to manage drop-in visits:
- Pin down who your main drop-ins are. Keep a visitor log for a week or two.
- Close your door. This might be a problem if you are in a supervisory or managerial position. Makes times for access if possible.
- Remove any extra chairs and other social amenities from your office
- If someone walks into your office unexpectedly, stand up and remain standing.
- If someone knocks on your door, confer with them outside your office. The idea is to keep visitors from firmly planting themselves in your office or your home.
- Be candid with visitors- If someone drops in and asks if you're busy, answer 'Yes'. If you can see them for only five minutes, tell them so. If they need more time, make an appointment.

Glyconutrients may have the ability to overcome stress. Mannatech Inc. with Sam Caster the founder, produce their glyconutrient products giving healthier and nutritionally enriched lives. Mannatech sells more than 24 proprietary and scientifically validated glyconutrient supplements and products for adults and children that address health and wellness issues, weight management and skin care.

Diabetes - Coming of Age

People with diabetes do not convert blood sugar (glucose) into energy effectively, either because they do not produce enough insulin (type 1 diabetes) or because their insulin no longer works properly (type 2 diabetes).
People with undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes are at risk of heart disease and may develop other major health problems such as hypertension, stroke, kidney failure and limb amputation.
Diabetes can be controlled with healthy eating, regular exercise and, in some cases, tablets or insulin injections. However, diabetes cannot be cured at this stage.
Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle are major risk factors for risk of type 2 diabetes, and because these factors are increasing in Australia, so too is the incidence of type 2 diabetes.
About 930,000 people in Australia have type 2 diabetes, but only half of these people know that they have the disease. This means there are many Australians have undiagnosed diabetes!

Mannatech Inc. with Sam Caster and their cutting-edge scientists are the leaders in the field of glyconutrients. Mannatech's proprietary products redefine wellness and are designed to give you assurance of nutritional health especially as all their health products contain glyconutrients.

The Hole-in-One that Nobody Saw

From 'The Positive Power of Praising People' by Jerry D. Twentier.
'Whoooosh!
The sound was solid and perfect. The instant his club struck the ball. He knew it was a good one. Higher, faster, farther! That streak of white arched and burst upward into the gray sky. Grant watched with satisfaction as the ball flew down the heart of the fairway..... This was one magnificent stroke!
Straining his eyes, he gasped in amazement as the tiny white speck rolled closer ... closer.... closer and....vanished into the cup! He was stunned.
"Yesssss!" ........ "I don't believe it!" he kept shouting to no one in particular: The adrenaline rush made him delirious with excitement. "Wait till I tell the guys about this one!"
"Elated as I was," Grant explained later, "I felt an immediate sense of frustration. What if nobody believed me? How could I prove I really aced it? ........
Like Grant and his heart-breaking hole-in-one experience, our achievements are worth less - and enjoyed much less - if they go unrecognized by others.
Accepting and enjoying acknowledgement is a basic human need.'

Glyconutrients are also a basic human need. Mannatech Inc. products are at the cutting-edge of nutritional science. Glyconutrients are necessary for optimal health. Mannatech's proprietary products redefine wellness and are designed to give assurance of nutritional health.

Early Arrivals

What can doctors - and parents - do about the alarming rise in the number of premature births? How can a woman reduce her risk for preterm delivery?
This may be a little help to those worrying about early arrivals:
- a woman can reduce her risk for preterm delivery by visiting her health care provider before pregnancy and, once pregnant, seeking early and regular prenatal care. A preconception visit is especially crucial for women with chronic disorders, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, which sometimes can contribute to preterm birth.
- when a woman receives adequate preconception and prenatal care, problems often can be identified early and treated, helping to reduce the risk for preterm birth.
- studies suggest that consuming the recommended amount of folic acid throughout pregnancy may reduce the risk for preterm birth.
- avoid alcohol, smoking and illicit drugs beginning before pregnancy and throughout pregnancy.
- try to reach a healthy weight before pregnancy because women who are overweight or underweight are at increased risk for premature delivery.
- gain the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy. Recommended weight gain during pregnancy is generally 25 to 35 pounds for women who begin pregnancy at a normal weight and less for women who start out overweight or obese.
- One new treatment may help prevent a subsequent preterm delivery in women who have already had a premature baby. Studies show that treatment with the hormone progesterone (17P) reduces the risk for preterm delivery by about one-third in these women. Progesterone is given as weekly injections beginning at 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Clogging Our Systems

Excerpt from 'Don't Worry Be Happy' by Greg Biddell, an itinerant minister.
'People! You will never get rid of the rats until you get rid of the rubbish. If you keep clogging up your system with old garbage from the past, you will always be in a state of disrepair. It is time to take stock of your life and forgive every single person who has ever done you an injustice. If that person has passed away or moved on to an unknown address, it's no big deal, because this has nothing to do with them or their future. It has everything to do with you.
I believe in doctors, and quite honestly if it wasn't for some of these dedicated men and women in the medical profession, most of us including myself, wouldn't be here today............ However, I am a great believer in taking God at His Word and His word does say, that Jesus came to this world 'to heal' and He still does heal the sick today.'
'It is important to remember that we have the ability to be in control or to lose control., We also have the capacity, in God, to deal with our hurts and relinquish our resentments. However, if we fail to deal with these ungodly attitudes in the present, we can be sure they will come back and bite us in the future. Bitterness and unforgiveness are luxuries none of us can afford, as in the long term they become very expensive commodities.
During my studies of late, I came across a medical report concerning Alzheimer's disease. A survey was completed with several hundred nuns participating and it was found that the nuns who walked in forgiveness had very active and clear minds, whereas the nuns who generally took offence, and walked in unforgiveness were more prone to suffer from this disease.'
Glyconutrients, discovered by Mannatech's cutting-edge scientists, as the missing link and are vital to optimal health and well being. Sam Caster, Chairman of Mannatech, knows that glyconutrients or saccharides, also known as "healthy sugars", may benefit diabetics, and those wanting to avoid the disease, in several aways. By helping regulate the immune system, glyconutrients may improve autoimmune conditions, including type 1 diabetes.

Stretch for Performance

Stretching tip from 'Men's Fitness' magazine 1999
'To perform well in any athletic endeavor, you have to be loose through the hips. The hips generate power during any swinging activity and are the centre point for full-body movement. To stretch the hip/buttocks area, use this stretch, recommended by the American Physical Therapy Association.

1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Keep your stomach tight, neck straight and the small of your back pressed toward the floor. Place the ankle of your left leg on top of your right thigh, justs above your knee, and inhale.

2. Bring your legs toward your chest as you clasp your hands under your right thigh. Exhale as you stretch. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds, then repeat on the opposite side.

Mannatech Inc. the leaders in Glyconutrition, have two products especially for sportsman and women, 'Empact' and 'Sport', which may give extra energy and strength and well as helping in recovery after strenuous exercise.

Truth About Excercise

Excerpt from 'The Genetic Key Diet' by Dr. Steven Nugent
'I have heard every excuse you can think of regarding exercise. If you choose not to exercise, it's a choice. Here are some of my favourite excuses: - I don't have time - I am too tired - I travel too much in my job - I can't afford a gym membership or home equipment.
I am going to address those excuses, but to make it simple those are reasons not excuses.
In 2005, I was on the road 310 days out of 365. Do you travel more than me?
My typical day is an early morning trip to the airport and flight to cities in any of 10 or more countries. When I arrive at my lecture venue, there are meetings and conference calls that go on all day until the evening lecture, which is nearly always preceded by a nutritional business dinner. After the lecture, that takes at least two hours, I typically answer questions that can go on for hours. When I get to my hotel room, my average day has lasted 14 to 18 hours, sometimes longer. Do you think I'm not tired from my schedule and workload?
You don't need a gym membership....It is important to warm up before exercise. I prefer to use the word activity rather than exercise as exercise has so many negative connotations.....Any activity can help you in your quest to increase lean body mass, and/or improve body composition.
Warming up basically consists of stretching your muscles, doing stretches on your legs, arms and back. Stretching the muscles increases the blood flow to the muscles, which is known as warming up. If you stretch before you begin physical exercise, you will be less sore, with less discomfort from the exercise as a result.
The first exercise any human ever got was probably walking; it still is one of the best.
Exercising the quadriceps, which require the most oxygen and are the large long muscle between your knees and your hips, is by far the most important for cardiovascular fitness and aerobic in general. Walking, running, cycling dancing, all work nicely for those muscles.....Keep it simple and zero cost, walking is great! Yes there are a zillion other methods I have not mentioned, but you get the idea.

Mannatech Inc. products are at the cutting-edge of nutritional science. Glyconutrients are necessary for optimal health and well being but are generally missing from our diets.

Organic Wines and our Planet

Interesting item from 'Australian Table'
This was something I hadn't thought of in the area of protection of our planet. So it came as a pleasant surprise to learn about the organic wines available.
'Consumers are more concerned with where food and drink come from than ever before. We're more mindful of our own health, as well as the impact of our agricultural practices on the health of the planet. This is acutely felt among wine producers, as no other agricultural product speaks more evocatively of its earthy origins than wine - the roots of the vine tell the stories of the soil through their grapes, and all the winemaker really has to do is gently guide them into the bottle. Organic and biodynamic grape growers believe that without pesticides and herbicides, their wines better express the true nature of their vineyards, and while some producers use feelgood terminology to cover up bad winemaking, those who put in the hard work are achieving great results.'
'Sulfur dioxide is a preservative used in winemaking to help prevent oxidation, but it can play havoc with allergy sufferers. Producing wine without it requires careful, hands-on skills, and fruit with sufficient natural tannin to take over the preservative duties...'
Watch out for the organic wines on the bottle shop shelves for the perfect wine.

Energy for Life

Oxygen provides life and energy to all living cells.
If poor eating habits, alcohol, pollution, toxins, drugs and lack of exercise damage the cells then they are deprived of this vital oxygen and the body can become weakened. Low oxygen levels may affect the body's cell metabolism and may even cause serious health problems. Symptoms of oxygen deficiency can include weakness, fatigue, circulation problems, muscle aches and many other general feelings of lethargy and tiredness. If the immune system is compromised due to a lack of oxygen, the body can also become susceptible to bacterial and viral infections.
The medical and sports professions have now begun to look seriously at the value of increasing oxygen levels and the benefits obtained from it.
A good dietary supplement formula will also contain added plant based enzymes and ionic colloidal trace minerals. These additional nutrients along with the oxygen are an integral part of cellular nutrition. When the body has an abundant supply of these valuable nutrients combined with the nourishment of oxygen, it is better able to perform at peak levels.

Mannatech Inc. proprietary products redefine wellness and are designed to give you assurance of nutritional health. They contain glyconutrients, plant sourced multivitamin and mineral supplements, enzymes and trace minerals. Their technology provides superior delivery of essential vitamin and minerals and important phytochemicals giving energy and vitality to sportsmen and women.

Fixes for Fine Hair

Excerpt from 'The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Women.'
Eating well to make sure one has the vitamins and minerals for enhanced nutrition and build up of immunity will also go in the right direction for healthy hair.
Experts have some ideal advice for women with fine hair.
'Crop it. - Fine hair looks thicker and chunkier when cut short, says Director of Vidal Sassoon, Elizabeth Hartley.
Let it swing free - Fine hair reflects lots of light, so styles that let your hair hang free alongside your face show off the shine, says Hartley.
Mousse it - If you have fine hair, add volume by moussing your roots, say Hartley. Lean forward from your waist, squirt a quarter-size poof of mousse into your palm, rub your hands together, then smudge the mousse through your roots. When it's well-distributed, throw your hair back and shake it.
Avoid using gels - Hartley adds. They're so heavy that the weight will make your hair collapse.
Let wet hair rest - If you have fine hair, after it has been washed and moussed, comb it into place and then leave it alone for at least ten minutes, get dressed, put make-up on or potter around your house. Your hair needs an opportunity to rest, or it will go limp and flat.
Coax your hair dry - Fine hair does not like rough handling, says Hartley, so don't style it with a blow-dryer set on high. Use a lower speed, and don't manhandle it: Instead of pulling on the ends with a brush, use your fingers to push or twirl ends into shape. The result will be more bounce and curl.
Coat with colour - Colouring your hair may thicken it, says Dr. Diana Bihova, a dermatologist and author of Beauty from the Inside Out. The colour penetrates the hair's cortex during colouring and causes it to swell. The result is thicker hair.'
Mannatech Inc. are the leaders in the glyconutrient industry and support your body's natural ability to reach optimum nutritional levels and play a role in enhancing quality of life and well-being.

Extra Protection Against UV Skin Damage

It is a vexing problem to rub cream all over our skin for protection from the sun's UV rays. What is actually going into our blood stream through the skin?

After all there are patches for the skin to protect one from pregnancy!

It is recorded (The Good Health News) that an Italian study has found that daily oral supplements of lutein and zeaxanthin (carotenoids found in egg yolk, oranges and green leafy vegetables) can bolster the skin's natural anti-oxidant system and protect against UV damage. Supplementing with a daily dose of 10 mg of Lutein and 0.6 mg of zeaxanthin provides a four-fold increase in protection against UV skin damage. It also increases skin hydration and elasticity.

Mannatech's Inc. scientists have produced glyconutrients in the form of vitamins and minerals. Mannatech Inc. understands that health begins at the cellular level and extend their breakthrough optimal health technology to the cells of your skin.

Glyconutrients Backed By Scientific Research?

There has been huge amount of interest and research into GlycoScience and Glycobiology. Over 20,000 studies conducted annually on glycoforms alone. Pharmaceutical companies realize the importance of this new discovery and university researchers know reading the 'sugar code' will mean a tremendous advancement in health and medicine.

They already know that biologically active sugars can dramatically raise natural killer cell and macrophage count against infectious organisms. They activate immune T-cell activity only when invaders or antigens are present.

These sugars can decrease cell death in people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome and dramatically elevate disease resistance in weakened individuals. They also act as antioxidant which contain dangerous free radicals. There is protection from toxin and pollutant exposure and slowing of premature aging. Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers find a decrease in the inflammation . These glyconutrients enable cellular components to stick to each other initiating the right reactions.

This is amazing results for our health and Mannatech's Inc. nutritional supplements of vitamins and minerals contain glyconutrients which are missing from our diet and are essential for optimal health and wellbeing.
